Session 4: Supporting Community Decision Making through Simulation Modeling: Systems Dynamic and Agent Based Modeling

Chair: Terry Huang, HCS NY; Distinguished Professor and Department Chair, Health Policy and Management, Director, Center for Systems and Community Design; City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy

(45 minutes, 1:15 to 2 p.m. 30 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes of Moderator Q&A)

Speakers:

  • Nasim Sabounchi, HCS NY; Associate Professor, Resident Fellow Center for Systems and Community Design, CUNY, Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy
  • Katherine Keyes, HCS NY; Professor of Epidemiology, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University
  • Steve Kilburn, Chautauqua County HCS Coalition Director

Overview of Presentation 4: This session will describe how innovative system dynamic modeling and agent-based modeling were used during the study. During HCS, coalitions used modeling to aid in the selection of EBPs and set goals. The session will describe the modeling, types of data that are collected, and how the findings are used in community-engaged research. The presentation will also describe challenges and ways to address them.
